Background
"First Light" is a J-44 built in 1989. The first six years of her life were spent in light-duty racing on Chesapeake Bay. Andy and Jill bought her in Annapolis in November, 1995 and sailed to Fort Lauderdale. Over the winter we added amenities and creature comforts that turned "First Light" into a comfortable (and still very fast) cruising boat. (Particularly Jill, who reupholstered the main salon and did extensive canvas work.) In May and June we sailed her 1,700 miles from Florida, through the islands of the Caribbean, to Trinidad where we left her for hurricane season.
