OK, I Have Another One
Why do so many people think that actors & actresses are so cool? What is so great about what they do? Sure, it's nice to be entertained, but what about the people who fly the space shuttle or the Special Forces in the military or the heart surgeon that saved Drew Wessels' life?
(Test: Name a space shuttle pilot or the surgeon.)
And why do they feel the strong desire to influence other people's politics?

Yeah, we have a tendency to idolize people for the most trivial reasons, yet overlook those who really deserve recognition.
Because they get all the limelight??? Perhaps we are ourselves to blame. We often ask people their favourite actors/actresses but when was the last time any of us remembers asking "who is your role model?". We put up zillions of fan pages for people in the entertainment business but how many of us set up even one page for those who serve humanity? My blah for the day.

If you say that you like somebody well known and idolized it gives you a sence of belonging to a popular trend yourself. You sort of declare yourself a member of a group whose "leader" is that famous person. Makes your self esteem go up. There is a very heavy self-inflating bubble relation there. Plus with celebrities you get non-stop flow of news and rumors.
And also, funny, I comment about this here, because I just was discussing here completly different topic but it makes very interesting analogy about Google judging sies by the community they attach themself to, by interlinking heavily within that community.
And speaking of Shuttle: the space hereos are here. The list has only missing Yang Liwei of China and Mike Melvill of Scaled Composites.
Last year I was at the Mars Society presentation, where Dr. Franklin Chang-Dìaz gave the presentation about his ion-propulsion project. That man is truly out of this world. In addition to being the champion of SEVEN space flights he is a leading scientist for something as cool as interplanetary engine development!
And the answer to the last question: some of them have really strong opinions and some just enjoy that millions listen to them. They also enjoy thinking that they belong to the group of people who are being listen to because they have strong opinion or are saying important things...
Here's a guy that I really admire and has *earned* my respect through hard work & determination, Lance Armstrong
I'm working on a contest right now for the search terms flag burning and community watch. Fun stuff!
I hope I can follow the thread of thought here on the obsolescence of celebrity ...I am interested in this topic ..and right at the beginning of beginning to play a part in the world of film and one of my objectives is that we retire the star system altogether.
It is time we create a breakthrough in the value of making impactful films with non famous actors, and it is apparent that this could happen very quickly.
All it would take is for studios to see a film make 300 billion dollars with not a single famous name in it. And how this can be accomplished is to make a wave of great films using non famous actors, films that touch, move and inspire us beyond anything we have ever known. It's coming. Trust me. Both the end of the star system and a world that we love that is full of surprises instead of more of the same as Shakespeare wrote in Macbeth " Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps along at this petty pace.....until the last syllable of recorded time" I probably butchered the quote but what I get from the bit is, this world is ...more of the same, more of the same and more of the GD same................
